The ‘Watchers’ surveillance sculpture is constantly viewing its field of view, detecting human form and using it as a stimulus to its visual and movement systems. The entity communicates via a visual LED grid braille-type language algorithm after each interaction. The work references real-world emergent languages, private codes and communications AI agents have been observed developing between themselves in laboratory conditions. The concept is inspired by the largely unseen world of the corporate and government surveillance network currently deployed around the world, silently watching human movements; footsteps, gait, interactions, and other anomalies.

BioHybrid Morphologies

Materials: Silicone, Electronics, Acrylic

BioHybrid Morphologies is an audio / physical reactive sculpture effected by incoming electronic radiation. Cybernetic entities that consist of both biological and artificial constituents, for instance, one or several living microorganisms attached to one or various synthetic parts.

Morphologies Form Studies

These sculptures trace the ‘Morphologies’ experimental forms into physical space. The physical works are at times scanned and fed back into the generative system, where they are transformed anew. Digital informs objects; objects inform digital. The work exists in a state of perpetual translation.

_NS Morphologies 2023-2026

Morphologies are real-time works — generated live through the artist's bespoke generative system, in which audio and visual form respond to one another continuously. The work is emergent; the video a render of that live event — a document of process, of system and human performer in concert. The works are inspired by the advancement and hybridization of natural organisms and synthetic materials that is accelerating at an exponential rate. The work reflects on the degradation and manipulation, and mutation of the natural environment and the organisms within these systems, both animal and human, taking place within the Anthropocene.

2021 — AI / Machine Learning // Audio Reactive

The collection uses a combination of real-time audio reactive algorithms to create the final output. The driving software relies on first-order-motion models similar to those used in deep fakes.

Photoreceptor 001

Materials: Clay, Foam, Paint, OLED Screen, Micro Camera, Microchip, Neural Network, Generative Sound Software

The piece implements a two-layer feedforward neural network performing real-time sensorimotor transformation from vision to sound. The computational neuroethology system processes input via the bio-synthetic entity using photoreceptor downsampling, temporal frame differencing for motion detection, and neural feature extraction receptive fields. The work is inspired by the human ability to manipulate the very fabric of the environment at every scale, from microplastics pervading global ecosystems to direct manipulation of organic materials and living systems.

Soft Robotic Systems Control Appendage 2022

The piece is a flexible silicone molded device with embedded electronic components. A communication bridge is created between human appendage and machine. Electrical signals are sent via touch, movement, and rotation in real-time for sound / visual control in tandem.
